Ped growth retardation due to inadequate secretion of endogenous growth hormone (GH); Turner's syndrome; growth disturbance in prepubertal childn w/ chronic renal insufficiency; adult growth hormone deficiency (AGHD) due to diseases of hypothalamus-pituitary gland or as diagnosed by 2 independent GH stimulation tests.
Dosage/Direction for Use
SCGrowth disturbance due to insufficient GH secretion in childn 0.025-0.035 mg/kg/day or 0.7-1 mg/m2/day. Turner's syndrome or chronic renal insufficiency 0.045-0.05 mg/kg/day or 1.4 mg/m2/day. AGHD Initially 0.006 mg/kg/day for 4 wk. Adjust the daily dose according to side effects & serum insulin-like growth factor-1.
Contraindications
Tumor activity, growth promotion in childn w/ closed epiphyses.
Special Precautions
Confirm diagnosis before treatment. Prolonged treatment; chronic renal insufficiency. Adult >60 yr. Discontinue use after renal transplantation. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Local skin reactions, elevated blood sugar level, edema, hypothyroidism, nausea, vomiting, severe & recurrent headache especially w/ visual problems.
